This name goes deeper than the cards. Sugimori is the original artist behind Pokémon itself — he designed a huge chunk of the first 151, so if you can picture what Bulbasaur or Mewtwo looks like, that picture came from his pen. He's also one of the most prolific card illustrators going, with hundreds to his name. His style is clean, clear and instantly familiar — because it's the look everything else was built on top of. Owning a Sugimori card is owning a little piece of the source code.
